The American cultural stereotype might equate trailers with survival, but here in Boulder, people are choosing the trailer park as a way to thrive. Through interviews and photographs “Trailer Park People” explores the value of downsizing, settling in, growing a garden, creating community, and investing in less. When we explored this mobile home park in the heart of Boulder, Colorado, we found a hub of conscious living. By choosing a tiny space, residents find they can live more sustainably and simply, in one of America’s most beautiful cities.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Book By Lisa Antunes Excellent book for those just beginning to Zen Doodle or those who are more advanced it gives clear ideas on how to develop your tangles as well as examples and many patterns as well as encouragement for those of us who become discouraged easily. I have bought a few books on this topic and this one by far has more practical advice on how to start, the different mediums you can use, how to go about lettering, design composition but most importantly she encourages exploration to find your own style. I am very happy with the book best one I have bought to date, she also has a YouTube Channel that show you how to draw many tangles I have been a fan of hers since the beginning.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Creativity unleashed! By Diane R. Great book. Very well written, informative and inspiring. Not only has it shown me new strokes and tangles, it has really opened up a new way to look at coloring my tangles. This book has exceeded my expectations, and I would recommend this book.

I shared the book with my sister this weekend, and now she's hooked and has ordered her own copy. I can't wait for future books. Thanks Tiffany!

Best Ebook Rory McEwen: The Colours of RealityFrom Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Rory McEwen strummed his way onto the Ed Sullivan show, sat in on a sitar session with George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, and was a leader in the post-war folksong revival. Yet arguably his greatest legacy was not in the field of music—a talented, precise artist, McEwen revolutionized the field of botanical art. McEwen developed a distinctive style working on unadorned vellum, presenting botanical subject matter with scientific precision and artistic flair, without ever compromising one for the other. At a time when such paintings focused on perfect specimens, McEwen found beauty in imperfections, which made his creations breathtakingly realistic. His paintings have been an inspiration to later generations of botanical artists and his work can be found in collections around the world, including the MoMA, the Tate, the British Museum, and the National Gallery of Modern Art Scotland. This revised edition of the best-selling Rory McEwen: The Colours of Reality adds more artwork from McEwen and a soulful foreword by musician Jools Holland. Four sections consider McEwen from four different angles: his life and music, his contributions to the avant-garde, his work as a botanical painter, and his influence and legacy.   Originally published to coincide with an exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in 2013, and developed in close collaboration with the McEwen family, this is the first major gathering of McEwen’s work since 1989.

Rory McEwen: The Colours of RealityFrom Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Review It seems odd that a singer, musician, television performer and sculptor who typified the 1960s as vividly as Rory McEwen should now be known principally for his botanical paintings. From the early 1950s until his tragically early death in 1982 he was everywhere and knew everyone, but as The Colours of Reality shows, McEwen was never more himself than when working within the discipline and timeless tradition of an art form that links him with the greatest flower painters of the past. Not every botanical painter can count Jim Dine, Joseph Beuys and Ravi Shankar as his friends, play the 12-string guitar, shoot at Balmoral, influence Van Morrison, bolster the fortunes of the Wakefield and North of England Tulip Society and drive a purple Ferrari with 'Ecosse' on the tail. The natural world, though, was his compulsion: I paint flowers as a way of getting as close as possible to what I perceive as the truth, my truth of the time in which I live. This mostly means looking, looking and thinking... It is impossible not to see in his extraordinary studies of decaying leaves a reflection of his own mortality, but these are not mere vanitas paintings. He imbued everything he painted with an anthropomorphic life, and in his hands a curved stem, a bent head, a wrinkled skin or an infestation of insects is a celebration of individuality rather than dispassionate botanical observation.Often the arrangement of plants seems to speak of relationships - two anemones look like birds conducting an elaborate courtship ritual, fritillaries are apparently holding hands - but these are illustrations that need close scrutiny rather than description. Revised and reprinted after the hugely successful monographic exhibition at Kew two years ago, this elegant book with its beautiful reproductions and sumptuous 'negative spaces' does full justice not just to the botanical works, but to the story as a whole of an artist who seems to have touched the lives of everyone who ever knew him.

About the Author Martyn Rix is the editor of Curtis’s Botanical Magazine and author or editor of numerous books, including The Golden Age of Botanical Art, The Genus Lachenalia, and Treasured Trees, all published by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Envelopes were standard fare, not too thick and you can kind of see the card through them, but they fit well. These have a small message inside, but they're mostly blank so I ended up personalizing them. Especially because they arrived in such a timely manner. Would buy again.

Excerpt from The Life of William CowperNearly a century has passed since the death of William Cowper, and few poets have had more written about them. The first to commence a systematic life of him was his old friend the Rev. John Newton, in 1800, a few months after the poet's death. No more than sixteen pages, however, were actually written, the burden of the author's years proving too great an obstacle. The Life by Hayley, the friend of Cowper's last decade - a work containing much valuable material - first appeared in two volumes in 1803, to which two more were added in 1806. Hayley's correspondence with Lady Hesketh, now in the British Museum (Addit. MS. 30803 A, B) shows under what difficulties this Life was written. Hayley had the hardest work imaginable to get Lady Hesketh and Theodora to tell him anything. Never, perhaps, in the history of literature was biographer so handicapped. "The biographer of Cowper," her ladyship told him, "whoever he might be, should not consider himself as the writer of a Novel, and indeed I am firmly of opinion that you should deal only in generals, and by no means give a particular account of the life of our friend."About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Excellent By David S. Mohler This is a well written and engaging biography of a poet better known to us common-folk by his poems and phrases than his name (which is pronounced "cooper".) This is the man who coined the phrase, "Variety is the spice of life" and wrote such moving hymns as, "There is a fountain filled with blood".The biographer wrote in short, cameo-like sections with sufficient detail to make the entire life of William Copwer complete and easy to follow. The writing style is sort of "conversational", as if Wright is telling the story of Cowper's life, rather than reciting the dry facts of it.Highly recommended.

This is the story about the early beginnings of rock 'n' roll in England and the arrival of The Beatles in Hamburg where they first met Tony Sheridan. They began working with him, backing Tony on their first hit record – 'My Bonnie' which sold over a million copies in America. Brian Epstein later asked Tony to return with The Beatles to England and continue working with them. Tony declined the offer and The Beatles went on to make history. The author was with Tony Sheridan in the 'Jets' from the very beginning in London, and later with him in the 'Star Combo' – the resident band at the 'Star Club'. Many other great British and American bands visited and performed at this club in Hamburg during the 60's. Tony and the band played alongside or toured with many of them including: Gene Vincent, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Tommy Rowe, Brenda Lee, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Kingsize Taylor, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Joey Dee and the Starliters and the weird and astonishing Screaming Lord Such. This is the story about those incredible times.

In 1978 Hans Cousto, a Swiss mathematician and musicologist discovered the natural formula of the "Cosmic Octave" as the link between different kinds of perodically occurring natural phenomena, such as the orbit of the planets, the weather, colors, rhythms and tones. This extraordinary book explains these relationships with examples of astronomical data comparing the frequencies of planatery orbits, in architectural works, in ancient and modern measuring systems, the human body, music and medicine. Cousto reveals how music is truly the language of the cosmos and of the natural world.

I see that 22 out of 24 readers of his review said it helped them. I would hate to think that so many were missing out on a worthy treatise on how the Universe is mathematically put together. I hope to undo some of his damage with my review. I have Masters degrees, including Math, Physics and Chemistry. I understand the details of what this book puts forth. I can say with resounding thanks, that all is well, read in harmony, in the Universe and this book goes a long way past other proofs. What Mr. Hirschorn objects to, a factor that successfully reduces the periodic orbits and frequencies of each body in our solar system, defies many mathematical traditions. The author may not understand the significance of this factor, as we did not understand the significance of Pi for so many centuries. The fact that the sun, planets and moon stand in the same frequency ratio as the notes on our most harmonic scale is the point, a brilliant one at that. In number theory, a science worthy of the best minds, we seek to understand these relationships between quantities. What Mathematician can explain the Law of Nines in our own number system? Mr. Hirschorn may reduce the studied body of work on that subject alone to mere "ramblings of numerology," our best minds have thought otherwise. How can one be a mathematician and not a musician? The significance of what we see to what we hear, the frequencies we respond to and how they repeat themselves from DNA outward, are the stuff we were made to understand. This book takes us further than we have traveled before. Have a great voyage! Once you leave the portal of what we don't want to be true, and travel into the awesome resonance of the Universe and what we see before us, your eyes, heart and mind will be in for so many surprises. Don't miss this one...

By artemis robison The Cosmic Octave is a gem of a handbook for anyone interested in understanding how music is truly the language of the cosmos and of the natural world. Cousto, a brilliant german mathematician, writes succinctly and in terms that are easy to grasp even for non-scientists. He outlines the basics of how specific musical tones and intervals are related to the color spectrum, periods of time, the sun and each of the planets in our solar system, and all the natural cycles and rythms we find in the world around us. By showing the reader the science behind how all life processes are tuned to specific tones or groups of tones, we are able to glimpse into the mystery of why and how music is a universal human language, indeed a universal language of life itself. For anyone curious about why music can affect listeners so profoundly, this book offers fascinating insight. And for readers interested in a more in-depth study of this subject, the appendices are rich with detailed scientific information and reference. For anyone pursuing a musical path, this handbook is invaluable as a guide and a powerful tool. It outlines the basics of how music may be created in resonance with the language of the universal life force. At a time when much of human civilization is out of sync with the earth and indeed at odds with it, Cousto offers a key to how music can be created to purposefully bring people into realignment with our roots in the natural world. Cousto is a brilliant spokesperson for all interested in how humanity may evolve wisely and gracefully into the new millenium. Certainly he is to be praised for his ability to educate and inspire a wide audience. The Cosmic Octave is a treasure chest in a very small package. Don't miss it.

By Midwest Book Review In The Cosmic Octave, mathematician and musician Hans Cousto shows the reader the intimate connection between levels of vibrating periodical phenomena and how the revolutions of the planets are related to musical beats, sounds and colors -- as well as the microcosmic vibratory qualities of a single cell. The Cosmic Octave will prove to be of great and enduring interest for students of metaphysics, the harmonics of music, and the relationships of colors, tones, and the cosmology of planets.

Drawing Robots

Learning to draw amazing unusual subjects

This eBook is about how to draw various robots, which you can find underneath the chapters. There are various types of robots drawn and explained with steps about how you can draw them at home. This eBook also focuses not only on the robot drawing but sketching too. Also some of the things a robot are more likely to have like a hammer robot a normal robot have been shown. Sketching gives anything a better look, so some sketching always help in all drawings. Each drawing must have a structure and a robot is the same. On the other hand, dissimilar to the human body you can draw a robot based off a human structure or simply something altogether cutting edge with its own structure and shape, however in this instructional exercise we have the humanoid structure to work from, thus we begin off with an oval shape for the head as regular and after that every one of the joints, for example, the shoulders, the elbows, the wrists, the pelvis, the knees and the lower legs are all generally outlined in as round circles and after that the biceps, the lower arms, the thighs and the calves are all portrayed in a wiener molded.

I want to give him a gift not just something I will buy but something I made an effort. And I thought of drawing a robot for him. I know how to draw but of course, I still need a guide and this book didn't disappoint me. I made it and had a great outcome. A big help indeed.

What a fabulous gift for book lovers. There are 20 book posters featuring some of the literary greats from Alice in Wonderland to Anna Karenina and Grimms Fairy Tales to Wuthering Heights. There is something for everyone. Each page is perfect for framing and I wish I had my own space, I would have a wall of these. You can fit them either in 8 x 10 frames.

This book would work well as a gift to a book-loving friend. Or, if you know someone who enjoys a particular book, it would also work well for removing the lovely book-themed illustrations and framing them individually. I found many favorites of my own in there, too, including the precious children in Grimm’s Fairy Tales and the striking image of Homer’s Odyssey.

Excerpt from Letters of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy From Italy and SwitzerlandFelix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was born at Hamburg, on the third of February, 1809. The name to which he was destined to add such lustre, was already high in the annals of fame. Moses Mendelssohn, his grandfather, a great Jewish philosopher, one of the most remarkable men of his time, was the author of profound Metaphysical works, written both in German and Hebrew. To this great power of intellect, Moses Mendelssohn added a purity and dignity of character worthy of the old stoics. The epigraph on the bust of this ancestor of the composer, shows the esteem in which he was held by his contemporaries:"Faithful to the religion of his fathers, as wise as Socrates, like Socrates teaching the immortality of the soul, and like Socrates leaving a name that is immortal."One of Moses Mendelssohn's daughters married Frederick Schlegel, and swerving from the religion in which both had been brought up, both became Roman Catholics.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. I have some talent. While this book does a good job of making me consider selling my art, I do not think that I have the dedication it takes to be a professional. This book truly is the textbook for the art business. I would have rated this 5 stars if I felt that it was more applicable to my experience. I suppose that it is not what I expected. I would highly recommend this (and have recommended this book) to my friends that are artists. It was an informative read with plenty of insight into the art industry. The author is obviously very knowledgeable and does make the information accessible to all.I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

I couldn't imagine making it my full time, real job, until after reading this book. Using the good information in this book, it can be done. I like the phrase that art is purchased, not sold. How true that is. We buy a painting or another work of art because we like it, not because someone is trying to sell it to us. I don't know that anyone could sell me a work of art if I didn't really want it. Most art doesn't appeal to everyone, but properly displayed and marketed, most anyone with artistic talent can make it their life's work. The information in Ms. de Wal's book is enough to give confidence to an artist to try selling their work. Shows and galleries are explained and the ins and outs of shows and pricing are shared. Juried shows, art advisors, gallery dealers and more are detailed to "get your foot in the door" to selling work. Inventory, tax information, licensing, etc. are so well spelled out that this is invaluable to any artist in any medium. This is like an encyclopedia of making art a career and not a book to be read lightly, but read and reread as goals change. As a reference book to be used by a beginning artist or a required text for classes both professional and casual painting classes, I certainly would recommend this.I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

The illustrations are amazingly diverse - many different pictures, usually (as opposed to 3 or 4 successive shots of the same picture at different stages).

Astonishments: Stories as True as Memory, by Marian Armstrong Rogers, is a collection of linked stories that tells of the author's marriage to Johnny, a childhood sweetheart who eventually became mentally ill, forcing her timid entry into the world of work, and than college. It tells of an affair with Sam, their marriage, her difficult adjustment after a long first marriage to John. And then it tells of the years when he developed Alzheimer's, the losses, the trials; the same years that she cared for a diabetic daughter who required a pancreas transplant, and lost another daughter to suicide. Sorrowful things happened. But these stories focus on the author's emotional growth, on her grateful awareness of laughter, of the love that surrounds her, of the deep joy that can unexpectedly arise on even a most difficult day. This life-journey is indeed astonishing.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Moving and Honest Memoir By MICHAEL A CARROLL Marian's story comes alive in this amazingly heroic journey through life. I could not put the book down. Where most people would succumb to despair from even a portion of the trials that Marian endured, she seemed to gain depth of character and powers from every tragedy. As her seemingly chaotic universe swirled around her Marian seemed to find beauty where others might only see hardship and sadness. For Marian each new day was a new opportunity and she always seemed grateful for whatever magic the new day would bring. Marian never stopped swimming. She is an inspiration to us all.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. One of the finest books of the year By Robert Buccellato There is something profoundly fearless about //Astonishments// the new book by author Marian Armstrong Rogers. The book begins with images, memories of a long remembered and revisited moment in the author’s life. A brown-shingled house on a hill, a collie dog, a school assembly, and a blue eyed boy named Johnny. Johnny the young man would become her first husband. Yet despite the fairy tale setting of the couple's early years, each passage is written by the adult Rogers with muted notes of regret. Married life turns into parenthood. Mental illness and an affair quickly follow. Her second husband, Sam, brings to the story a heighten sense of love renewed, until he develops Alzheimer's disease. ||This is an unusual biography, there is an openness from the very beginning. The author is exposed and makes no attempts to pull the reader back or gloss over details. The mental associations found in the book are vast and vivid throughout this fast-moving book. ||Honest and courageous, //Astonishments// is a book everyone should read as the progress and look back on their lives. It’s a literary undertaking anyone should embark on whenever they need perspective or assess their future. ||One of the most fascinating aspects about reading this compelling book is how much of a page-turner it truly is, and just how addicting it becomes. This is a rare achievement for a work of nonfiction and a near impossibility for a memoir or biography. Yet, the author's voice is so rich and strong, that it seems to reach in and pull the reader forward. Those who don't naturally enjoy nonfiction may complain about the level of descriptive details and the flowery recollections of the author. To such complaints I will only reply with a mild eye roll. This is a work of such merit, that it could serve on the defense of CreateSpace, as a perfect embodiment of what an author can achieve in this new exciting era of publishing. ||Which brings me to the one frustration I have with the project, and it’s a real legitimate concern that I feel limits the author’s book. This fine memoir was published through Amazon’s CreateSpace and not a traditional publisher. This gave her more freedom in the book’s structure, but denies her additional exposure. Despite this one personal concern, I still have very high hopes for this book. Marion Armstrong Rogers is a fine author and she should be very proud.

By Amazon Customer A beautifully written, painfully honest account of the author's life and loves. There is a lovely kind of poetry to her prose which made for an easy, interesting read. Thank you, Mrs. Rogers, for sharing your memories.
